On Your Marks...
Can you hear the engines revving? 2012 has shot from the starter's line and boy howdy is it moving like the clappers. Word on the street is that resolutions are out but seachanges are in, so to all who are beginning a new or modified lifestyle with the advent of this year I wish you clear skies and happy sailing.
For my own part I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row so that this year can be the best yet (aim for the stars my friends), and that means that Live On Air with Poet Laureate Telia Nevile is being primped and preened and hussied up in the leadup to the 2012 Adelaide Fringe! 'Pickin' Up What You're Puttin' Down' is getting a brand-new backing track (with a few more spaces built in for little requirements like getting enough oxygen), 'The Weather Report of My Soul' is undergoing a Wuthering Heights-style rewrite, and I am spending some quality time in my dressing gown and Freudian Slippers listening to lots of amazing music. If you're in Adelaide, keep a night free for me between Fri 24th Feb and Sat 3rd Mar, and if you're elsewhere but know someone in Adelaide, then I'd love you to send them my way - all the details are below.
I've also been cruising the TED videos on youtube lately as food for new-year-thought and I came across their video of Aimee Mullins (the woman from the Cremaster Cycle with the glass legs, and the one who modelled for Alexander McQueen in beautifully hand-carved wooden legs) and she said something that I thought was rather lovely, so I leave this for your consideration.
“Poetry matters. Poetry is what elevates the banal and neglected object to a realm of art. It can transform the thing that might have made people fearful into something that invites them to look and look a little longer, and maybe even understand.”

If you can't make it through your week without a few haikus, then there are some videos on youtube here or here. When the mood strikes, I'm dropping a line or two in at the 'A Touch of the Poet' blog to give you a window on the inner-workings of the poet, so please do ch ch check it out, and if you're a Facebook person, I would be stoked if you would join 'Poet Laureate Telia Nevile's Poetry Corner' - the official Poet Laureate facebook group. If you'd like a look at another alter ego I seem to have developed, read a review of For Whom the Bell Tolls by her here. I have also become a fully-fledged member of the cybersphere by joining up on Twitter, so come follow me and let us save the beauty, wonder and nuance of the English language 140 characters at a time.
