Telia Nevile - Biography
Telia is a writer, performer and photographer who loves long-form language, dance movies and playlists that shift from Jay Z to Megadeth and back again. She completed a BA in Animateuring (the creation of new theatre) at VCA in 1999 and since then has spent her time experimenting with theatrical form.
She premiered her beloved ‘Poet Laureate Telia Nevile’ comedy character at Melbourne’s cult Last Tuesday Society in 2008 and appears regularly at the monthly event and its Festival spin-offs (2014 Malthouse Helium; 2013 MIFF; 2008-2011 Melbourne Fringe; 2009-2011 MICF; 2010 Falls Festival; 2010 Streets of Melbourne). She has also created three solo shows under the guise of her socially incapable alter ego ‘Poet Laureate Telia Nevile’, enjoying successful seasons at Festivals such as IndyFringe (Indianapolis, USA), Sydney Writers’ Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and The Falls Festival. In 2010 Nevile was nominated for both the Best Newcomer and Golden Gibbo awards at her first Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and in 2011 she was named one of the Sydney Morning Herald's 'Top Ten Comedy Stars of Tomorrow'.
Telia has appeared as a special guest at events such as the Melbourne International Arts Festival’s Becks Rumpus Room, Slamalamadingdong, Political Asylum and Women of Letters. Her ode to 1980s teen movie director John Hughes is published in the Women of Letters compendium ‘Between Us’, out now through Penguin Books.
In 2012 Telia completed a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art Photography, where she indulged her penchant for creating memories that never existed. She has exhibited at galleries such as Rubicon ARI, Seventh Gallery and Mailbox, and her work can be seen at http://www.telianevilephotography.com
